Terms of Use (Beta)

In short

This summary helps you read the terms. The full terms below are what apply.

1. Who we are

This is Fine is published by SOVRAN DESIGN SERVICES - FZCO, a free zone company registered with the International Free Zone Authority (IFZA), licence no. 73744, Dubai Integrated Economic Zones Authority. Registered address: DSO-IFZA, IFZA Properties, Dubai Silicon Oasis, Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Contact: martin@sovran.ae.

In these terms, "we" and "us" mean this company, and "you" means the person who joins the beta or uses the Product.

2. Definitions

Product
This is Fine as made available to you: the App, the Skill, the demo data and the documentation, in a private GitHub repository.
App
The local web application that runs on your computer.
Skill
The this-is-fine skill: plain text instruction files for Claude, included in the Product, with a guide for each task (setup, sync, orders, thesis, look-through and scorecard). You can read and change it. You add it to Claude yourself.
Claude
The artificial intelligence provided by Anthropic, which you use under your own Anthropic account and Anthropic's terms.
Connector
The Interactive Brokers connector for Claude (MCP), which you add to Claude and use with your own IBKR account, under the terms of Interactive Brokers.
Containers
The spaces in the App where text and figures written by Claude are stored and displayed.
Output
Everything Claude produces, including what is stored in Containers: comparisons, compositions, scores, summaries and answers.
Third-Party Services
Services we don't operate, listed in section 8.

3. What the Product is

The Product is a local interface for Claude and the Connector. The App holds the data that Claude copies from your IBKR account, adds it up and displays it. It also fetches public daily prices, exchange rates and logos by itself (section 8). It ships with no thesis, no composition, no score and no text of analysis about your portfolio: until your first sync, it only shows the fictitious sample described in section 5.7.

The Product runs on your computer. You have no account with us, and we run no server for it.

4. What the Product is not

The Product is not, and we do not act as:

We hold no money or securities for you. We have no access to your IBKR account, your Claude account or your credentials. We transmit no orders. We receive no commission or payment linked to your orders.

5. Features and how they work

Each screen, what the App does on it, and what Claude does on it:

ScreenWhat the App doesWhat Claude does
PositionsDisplays and adds up: sums, percentages, breakdowns by broker, asset class, sector and currency. Fetches public closing prices and exchange rates, and revalues positions between two syncs.Copies positions, cash and valuations from IBKR when you ask.
OrdersDisplays instructions, live orders and the journal. Shows exchange opening hours from a fixed calendar. Can't see IBKR: after you click Validate, a card waits for sync.Creates the order instruction you ask for, logs it, checks IBKR and updates its status.
ThesisDisplays what Claude wrote, with an illustration. Calculates nothing in it.Writes a comparison with known allocations, and what your ETFs hold, when you ask.
ScorecardDisplays what Claude wrote. Holds no scoring formula and calculates nothing in it.Writes a score for each holding, when you ask.

5.1 Positions

The App shows your positions, your cash by currency, the value of the portfolio over time, the amount invested, unrealised gains and currency effects, and a 3-month trend per position. These figures are sums and percentages of the data Claude copied during your last sync, and of public prices.

Between two syncs, the App revalues your positions by itself, without Claude: quantity × last closing price × exchange rate of the day. It fetches these prices and rates when it starts, then every 12 hours (section 8). A valuation from IBKR always takes precedence. The figures are not live, and they can differ from IBKR's.

During the sync, Claude sorts positions into five groups, called bags (core, picks, bonds, gold, cash), following the this-is-fine Skill. A bag is a label for display. It is not an assessment.

5.2 Orders

  1. You tell Claude the order you want: instrument, side, quantity, order type, limit price and validity. The this-is-fine Skill tells Claude to ask for anything missing, with no default value of its own, and never to suggest an instrument, a side, a quantity, a price or a moment.
  2. Claude states facts about your order (last price, whether the exchange is open, your cash in that currency) and asks you to confirm.
  3. Claude creates an order instruction in your IBKR account, through the Connector, and logs it in the App's journal. An instruction is not an order: nothing has been sent to the market.
  4. You click Validate in the App or follow the link Claude gives you. The instruction opens in IBKR, where you check it and submit it yourself. You can change it or drop it there. Only then does it become an order.
  5. The App can't see IBKR by itself. After you click Validate, the card waits for sync. Claude reads the status of your orders in IBKR, about once a minute and up to ten times while its session is open, or when you ask for a sync, and updates the journal. Until then, the App may not reflect what happened in IBKR.

The App itself never communicates with a broker or a market. There is no automatic execution, no scheduled order and no order generated without your request.

The Connector can also run in a mode that sends orders to the market without review. The Product is built for the review-and-approve mode only, and the this-is-fine Skill tells Claude to stop if the Connector is in any other mode. You control this setting with IBKR.

Instructions cover only what the Connector covers. Currency conversions are done by you in IBKR. A live order can't be cancelled through the Connector in this mode: you cancel it in IBKR.

The Orders screen includes a fixed help panel that defines order types and validity terms. It is general information on how they work, not advice on which one to use.

5.3 Thesis

When you ask, Claude compares the split of your portfolio with six widely known allocations (Full throttle, All-world, Core-satellite, The 60/40, All Weather, Permanent Portfolio), following the this-is-fine Skill. Figures such as a match percentage or an estimated volatility are worked out by Claude from your data and from typical assumptions. They are illustrations, not forecasts.

A comparison describes. It is not a target, and you are not expected to follow any allocation.

5.4 Look-through

When you ask, Claude reads the public factsheets of the ETFs you hold and public index weights, and writes what those ETFs hold by sector, region and company, following the this-is-fine Skill. These compositions can be incomplete, approximate or out of date. The App shows the source and date that Claude gives.

5.5 Scorecard

When you ask, Claude writes a score from S to D for each holding, based on public facts about its wrapper: fees, payout, tax and currency. The App holds no scoring grid and calculates nothing: each score is Claude's result.

The this-is-fine Skill gives Claude a method. It is a text file that you can read and change, and Claude may apply it differently from one run to another, so two runs can give different scores. A score describes the wrapper of a holding. It is not a rating of the investment, and it is not a recommendation to buy, hold, sell or switch.

5.6 Containers

Screens filled by Claude show that they were written by Claude, with a date. They are filled only when you ask and never refresh by themselves, so they can be older than your positions. A floating panel shows what Claude is writing to the App. It doesn't show your conversation with Claude, which the App can't access.

5.7 Demo

The Product includes a demo with Camille, a fictitious investor, in read-only mode. Her name, positions, orders and figures are invented, and the text in her screens is an example. Until your first sync, the App shows this demo behind its setup screen, and your own positions then replace it. The website shows this demo too. Examples on the website, including the conversations with Claude, are illustrations: what Claude writes for you will differ.

5.8 Storage

By default, your data is stored as JSON files in a data/ folder on your computer, with one copy a day kept for 30 days. You can choose to store it in your own Supabase project instead (section 8). We have no access to either.

6. Claude's Output

Output is produced by Claude, a service of Anthropic, in your own Claude account, at your request, from your data, the public sources Claude reads and the instructions in the Skill. It is independent of us:

The Skill tells Claude to state facts and not to recommend, suggest or discourage any instrument, order, allocation or moment. These are instructions to a third-party AI: we can't guarantee that Claude will always follow them. If you change the Skill or use Claude outside it, the result is yours alone. Check anything that matters against the primary source, such as your IBKR account or the issuer's documents.

7. No advice

Nothing in the Product, on our website or in the Output is investment, financial, tax, legal or accounting advice, or a personal recommendation. You alone decide what to do with your money, and you alone are responsible for your decisions, your orders and your taxes.

Investing carries a risk of loss, including the loss of your capital. Past performance says nothing about future results. If you need advice, consult a licensed professional.

8. Data sources and third-party services

This is the complete list of what the Product reads from or sends to, with or without Claude:

The App goes online for these four public services only: Yahoo Finance, Frankfurter, Financial Modeling Prep and Parqet. It sends tickers, ISINs and currency codes, never quantities, amounts or account details. Yahoo Finance's chart service is public but isn't an official API: if it doesn't respond, the App keeps the last prices it has. Each logo is fetched the first time it is displayed, then kept on your disk. If none is available, the App shows the initials of the holding.

We don't operate these services and we don't control their accuracy, availability or terms, which apply to you when you use them. They can change or stop at any time, and some features can then stop working.

9. Your data

Your portfolio data stays on your computer, or in your own Supabase project if you chose that. The Product contains no analytics and no tracking, and it sends us nothing.

We receive only what is needed to run the beta: your email address, the link to your GitHub profile, and anything you write to us. We use them to give you access, keep you informed about the Product and meet our legal obligations. You can ask us to correct or delete them, subject to those obligations, at martin@sovran.ae.

10. The beta

The Product is in private beta. Access is free and by invitation: you send us the link to your GitHub profile, and we may invite you to the private repository, with read access. You then clone it to your computer. We choose whom we invite, and nobody is entitled to an invitation.

By joining the beta or using the Product, you accept these terms. No payment is due for the beta. What you need to use the Product (section 12), such as a Claude plan or an IBKR account, and any cost charged by your broker, stay at your expense.

A beta is unfinished: the Product has blind spots and can contain errors. We may change it, pause it, remove features, or end the beta or your access to the repository at any time, with or without notice, and without compensation. If we later offer the Product on other terms, including for a fee, you are free not to continue.

11. Licence

The Product's code is licensed under the PolyForm Noncommercial License 1.0.0, included in the repository as LICENSE.md, with one additional permission: using it to follow and manage your own personal investments is a permitted personal use, even when those investments make money. LICENSE.md is what applies. In short:

Copyright SOVRAN DESIGN SERVICES - FZCO. Third-party components stay under their own licences: Plus Jakarta Sans (SIL Open Font License 1.1), ApexCharts (MIT) and Express (MIT).

When the beta or your access to the repository ends, you may keep using the copy you already have, as it is, with no updates.

12. What you need

During the beta, the Product works on macOS and with Interactive Brokers only.

13. Updates and support

Updates are published in the private repository, and you get them with git pull. Your data and settings are not affected. We decide what to update and when, and we commit to no schedule. We don't promise to keep the repository available. If we stop, your local copy keeps working as long as the Third-Party Services it relies on do.

Support is by email, on a best-effort basis, with no guaranteed response time. We can't support changes you or Claude made to the code.

14. Your responsibilities

15. Warranty and liability

The Product is a free beta, provided "as is" and "as available". To the extent the law allows, we give no warranty that it is free of errors, that it will run without interruption or that it fits a particular need. Figures can be wrong, including because of a wrong copy or a calculation error: IBKR's records prevail over the App.

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for:

To the extent the law allows, our total liability is limited to 100 US dollars.

Nothing in these terms limits liability that can't be limited by law, or your mandatory rights as a consumer.

16. Trademarks

Claude is a trademark of Anthropic. Interactive Brokers and IBKR are trademarks of Interactive Brokers LLC. Other names and logos, including Financial Modeling Prep, Parqet, Supabase, GitHub, MSCI and the names of ETF issuers, belong to their owners. They are used only to identify these services. We are not affiliated with, sponsored by or endorsed by any of them.

17. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms and we publish each version on this page, with its date. If you use an update of the Product that comes with new terms, those terms apply to that update, and they apply from the date of publication if you keep using the Product.

18. Applicable law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of the Emirate of Dubai and the federal laws of the United Arab Emirates. Before any legal action, please write to us: we will try to resolve the matter amicably. Failing that, the courts of Dubai have jurisdiction.

If you are a consumer, you keep the protection of the mandatory rules of the country where you live, and you may bring a claim before its courts.

If a clause is found invalid, the others remain in force.
